Event Details

AKC Community Canine is the third and most advanced level of the Canine Good Citizen Program. The goal of AKC Community Canine is to test the dog’s skills in a natural setting. For example, rather than the dog being tested in a ring, in AKC Community Canine the dog will walk through a real world, real crowd scenario setting like a busy sidewalk.

Examples of things dogs in this course will learn include, but are not limited to:

  • Standing, sitting, laying down, and waiting under control
  • Walking on a loose leash in a natural setting
  • Walking on a loose leash through a crowd
  • Walking past other dogs without pulling
  • Sitting and staying while in a small group of people and dogs
  • Recalling with present distractions

At the end of the 6-week class dogs will participate in an exam and successful teams will earn the CGCA title.

  • Prerequisite: CGC certification required
  • Sundays: April 16 through May 21 (6 weeks of class)
  • 10:00 – 11:00AM
  • Rabies, Distemper, and Bordetella vaccinations required as well as a negative fecal including Giardia testing
