AKC Community Canine is the third and most advanced level of the Canine Good Citizen Program. The goal of AKC Community Canine is to test the dog’s skills in a natural setting. For example, rather than the dog being tested in a ring, in AKC Community Canine the dog will walk through a real world, real crowd scenario setting like a busy sidewalk.
- Examples of things dogs in this course will learn include, but are not limited to:
- Standing, sitting, laying down, and waiting under control
- Walking on a loose leash in a natural setting
- Walking on a loose leash through a crowd
- Walking past other dogs without pulling
- Sitting and staying while in a small group of people and dogs
- Recalling with present distractions
At the end of the 6-week class dogs will participate in an exam and successful teams will earn the CGCA title.
- Prerequisite: CGC certification required
- Sundays: April 16 through May 21 (6 weeks of class)
- 10:00 – 11:00AM
- Rabies, Distemper, and Bordetella vaccinations required as well as a negative fecal including Giardia testing
INSTRUCTOR: Jessica Ackerman, CPDT-KA
